The Demand for Austerity in the Twenty-First Century

The overindulgence of luxury goods and the amount of useless excess that is consumed in the West is deplorable in itself, but it can only be seen as utterly parasitical given the fact that the money spent so carelessly on luxuries could not only save lives but practically eliminate global poverty and needless deaths due to preventable disease. This situation indicates and utterly irresponsible society and it is clear that measures of austerity must be adopted if dignity is to prevail in this world.

The purposeless waste and corruption that luxury represents is polluting our minds, wrecking our resources, and polluting the earth while so many still suffer in extreme need. Thus austerity is essential on the part of everybody; we can only consider luxurious excess to be a perversion in the face of humanity.
Those who cannot do without luxury can only be considered petty, weak, and even parasitical in many cases. Austerity and solidarity must be made the order of the day for human society and this is essential for our continued wellbeing as a species, we must express our dignity through will and action. We will prevail, for we are all of us human and we must stand together – we must call humanity together and work with one another for the sake of the common good and society must be mobilized en masse to this end. Solidarity is essential if humanity is to triumph over the challenges that it faces in this trying time.

If culture is a reflection of language and vice-versa, there can be no doubt as to what our culture considers to be important by analyzing the number of words centered on a common theme: the more words to describe a particular object, idea, or phenomenon, the greater its importance to the culture in question.
In our case there are too many words centered on money, possession, and excess. The words that we should be emphasizing in our vocabulary should be those that refer to solidarity, unity, humanity, dignity etc. The human spirit must be emphasized in our words and thereby flow throughout our culture.
The human spirit itself must be mobilized if humanity is to triumph. We must assemble the vast army that constitutes the human species. I say this to humanity, to every human being, your species needs you! I call you all to action – AWAKE!
